Boy with Melting Ice Cream Cones
by Judy Nyberg Petre
My father was the original model for this cover. Mr. Rockwell changed the head on the finished painting because (he told my grandmother), Daddy's face was too handsome for the subject of the painting. I have the original, signed painting of Dad from shoulders up, with towel around his neck. Dad, Bill Nyberg, lived in New Rochelle, N.Y during the time that an artist's enclave resided there. He sat for many of them (handsome devil that he was.) I also have magazine pictures that Revere F. Wistenhuff did of him and some photos of when he was "posing". From Keith: I have studied the reference photo for this painting on the Norman Rockwell Museum website. The photo of the model is indeed different from the face in the painting. Thanks for sharing this about your Dad.
Remember to check back often.
