Cousin Reginald Catches the Thanksgiving Turkey
|
Cousin Reginald Catches the Thanksgiving Turkey, this Norman Rockwell painting, appeared on the cover of The Country Gentleman published December 1, 1917.
This illustration was the sixth Country Gentleman cover by Norman Rockwell. Rockwell painted thirty-three covers for The Country Gentleman starting in August 1917, the first Cousin Reginald cover, and continuing through April 1922.
This was also the sixth cover installment in the popular series about exploits of the city and country cousins.
Cousin Reginald Catches the Thanksgiving Turkey
This cover is probably mis-named. The turkey is actually about to catch Cousin Reginald, not vice-versa.
This painting was only one of 34 Norman Rockwell Country Gentleman covers; here is the list of more Norman Rockwell Country Gentleman scans.
Here is the complete list of all Norman Rockwell magazine covers.
Reginald is running from the turkey as fast as his legs will go. His hat has flown off and is trailing him on its tether. His necktie is also trailing over his shoulder.
He looks very surprised that the turkey is chasing him. The turkey must not be frightened by the axe in Reginald's hand.
The other boys in the series, Rusty, Chucky and Tubby, are all gleefully watching the whole scene. They are laughing and yelling at Reginald to turn and face his tormentor.
Even Patsy the dog seems amused by Reginald's ordeal.
Thanksgiving dinner may be a little late this year .
