A Light Haired Woman Will Cross Your Path
In this painting, Norman Rockwell returns to one of his favorite subjects: young love.
This young man has consulted a palm reader. We do not know his questions, but we do know at least one of the answers. His path will be crossed... and by a light haired woman, no less.
This painting was only one of 28 Norman Rockwell Life magazine covers; here is the list of more Norman Rockwell Life Magazine scans.

By coincidence, a light haired woman sits by his side. She looks intrigued at the fortune teller's mention of her.
The young man still looks intently at his palm in the palm reader's grasp. What other "secrets" will be revealed by the fortune teller?
The background and foreground give us some understanding of the life of a palmist in the 1920's. The reading is happening inside a tent. The fabric of the tent appears very worn.
Various items are visible around the tent.
A jug is almost covered by the tablecloth. Beside the jug lies an overturned glass and some playing cards. Leaning against the tent pole is an urn. And hanging on the tent pole is a tambourine.
Want proof that the palm reader is true professional? She didn't tell the young man that a light haired woman wearing a light blue dress and a blue ribbon in her hair will cross his path. A true professional is quite that obvious.
